The New Moon on January 31, 2022 ushers in a rare series of three Black Moons in some parts of North America. A Black Moon is the second New Moon in a month, but the term is also used if there is no New Moon in a month.

In some North American time zones, covering parts of the US and Canada, there will be two New Moons in January, no New Moon in February, and two New Moons in March.

You won't be able to see the New Moons, but a moonless sky makes for great conditions for night sky viewing.

Two-Two Day in February

February 2022 is full of palindrome dates—dates that read the same forward and backward—but two dates stand out:

• February 2, 2022: In the d-m-yy (2-2-22) or m-d-yy (2-2-22) formats, all the digits in the date are twos, so it is being called Two’s Day. It is also Groundhog Day in the United States.
• February 22, 2022: This “Two's Day” also falls on a Tuesday, the second day of the week in many cultures around the world. This has prompted the media to call the day Twosday or Two-Two Day.
