Watch a "ring of fire" around the Moon
The New Moon covered the Sun's center, leaving its outer edges to form the characteristic annulus or “ring of fire” during this rare solstice annular solar eclipse.
In many time zones, it took place on the same day as the June solstice. This coincidence of an annular solar eclipse on the same day as the June solstice will only happen once again this century: on June 21, 2039.
