Uses for the Date Calculators
The date calculators and calendars on timeanddate.com can be used for various calendrical calculations. Some typical uses are listed below.
Count Days or Calculate an Event's Duration
Our Date to Date Calculator can tell you how many days something lasts:
- Enter the first date of the event in the Start Date fields.
- Enter the final day of the event in the End Date fields.
- Enable Include end date in calculation.
- Click on Calculate Duration to see the results.
Example use: The number of days the Torino Olympics 2006 lasted.
How Old Are You (or Another Person)?
The Date to Date Calculator can also help you to find out old someone is:
- Enter the birth date in the Start Date fields.
- Click on the Today button in the End Date section.
- Disable Include end date in calculation.
- Click on Calculate Duration.
Example use: How old would Elvis be today?
How Old Were You in 1990 or Any Other Past Year?
Another feature of the Date to Date Calculator is to find out how old you were in a past year:
- Enter the birth date in the Start Date fields.
- Enter the year for which you would like to find out your age in the End Date section.
- Disable Include end date in calculation.
- Click on Calculate duration.
Exactly How Old Are You?
If you know the time of day you were born, the Time Duration Calculator can tell you exactly how many hours, minutes, and seconds have passed since you were born.
Calculate Your Age in Hours, Minutes, and Seconds
Can't wait for your next birthday? Celebrate an alternative birthday! The Special Age Calculator shows you when you are exactly, say, 1 billion seconds or 250 Mercury years old:
- Enter the date of birth and, if you know it, the time of day.
- Make a selection in the two drop-downs, Calculate and Frequency.
- Click on Calculate Alternative Birthdays.
Example use: How many minutes have passed since you were born?
Birth Date and Time
The Date Calculator allows you to calculate when someone was born based on their age and, if applicable, their date of death.
This tool is useful for genealogists, as the birth date is not always recorded on death certificates, tombstones, or graves, even if the age and death date is known. Follow these steps:
- In the Start Date fields, enter the death date.
- In the Add/Subtract drop-down, choose Subtract and enter the age at death in the Years, Months, Weeks, and Days fields.
- Click on Calculate New Date.
Example use: Albert Einstein's birth date based on the age and death date.
Calculate Which Date It Is in X Days
The Date Calculator also allows you to calculate what date it will be a number of days after a particular date, which is useful for calculating the timing involved in contracts or planning various events. Follow these steps:
- In the Start Date fields, enter the start date.
- In the Add/Subtract drop-down, choose Add and enter the number of days (or any other of the fields - they can be combined).
- Click on Calculate New Date.
Example use: What was the date at 100 days after May 1, 2005?
Which Day of the Week?
If you wish to find out the day of the week for any date, such as your date of birth, our Weekday Calculator is your tool of choice.
Alternatively, if you wish to find out the days of the week for a whole range of dates or if you simply prefer to see the date on a calendar to get a better overview, you can create a calendar for the date or time span in question:
- Open the Calendar Creator.
- Enter the year.
- Select a country or leave as it is.
- Click on Create calendar.
- A calendar for the year you chose will be displayed. It will also show the weekday of any day.
